On August 1st, 2014, Sawdust City Brewing Company opened its flagship brewery building in downtown Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. The site at 397 Muskoka Road North, formerly a Canadian Tire store, was transformed into a state-of-the-art brewing and canning facility that also encompasses a taproom and retail store. This milestone in the company’s history was the culmination of almost three years of hard work and determination by brewery owners Rob Engman and Karla Dudley-Engman and co-founder and Brewmaster Sam Corbeil.
The brewery houses a 24-hectolitre, 4-vessel brewhouse built in Prince Edward Island. In addition, the new facility includes a 1,200 sq. ft. retail store and a 1,600 sq. ft. taproom. The retail store sells all Sawdust City’s packaged beer products as well as items from local artisans. The taproom, nicknamed “The Saloon”, allows visitors to enjoy Sawdust City’s craft beer as well as other beverages.
The company produces six core beer brands and also brews a number of seasonal beers. The flavour profiles range from easy-drinking Lagers to hoppy IPAs, Kettle Sours and rich Stouts. Sawdust City has a reputation in the industry for its innovative and prolific craft beer styles. In 2014 & 2015, Sawdust City’s Lone Pine IPA received the highest honour a craft beer can achieve, by being voted the “Best Beer In Ontario” by the province’s brewers at the Ontario Craft Beer Association Golden Tap Awards event in Toronto.
